Discover IT Program

What is Discover IT?

 

The Discover IT Program falls under the DEI Grant, which stands for the Disability Employment Initiative. DEI is a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Labor that focuses on employment and training. The DEI Grant focuses on the Information Technology (I.T.) Careers.

Who can qualify?

​

Students can be selected for the Discover IT Program if they have demonstrated interest in the IT careers through self-identification, or a by participating in a past or current District 214 Course within the IT Career Pathway. Students also must have a current IEP or Section 504 Plan. 

​

How do we support our students?

We help students find workplace learning experiences that can include: On-the-Job Training, Job Shadowing, and Internships. These experiences connect students with industry professionals to assist in expanding students' professional network. Additional opportunities include earning IT industry certifications prior to graduating high school through specific career pathway courses such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+. Finally, participants will gain assistance with career readiness skills through our Summer Career Readiness Course that focuses on resume building, interview skills, and professional work qualities.

How to apply?

Students will need to complete a Student Application, Parent Consent/Recommendation, Two (2) Teacher/Staff Recommendations, an Interview with a Discover I.T. Program Advisor, and Adequate medical and auto insurance, if applicable.
