High School District 214
Center for Career Discovery
Career Exploration Model
The Career Exploration Model (CEM) provides additional support services to those students who are undecided in terms of post high-school plans, career clusters, or possible career pathways. Services surrounding the CEM are typically offered to students with sophomore and junior standing in order to facilitate better career- and life-readiness prior to graduation. Students are identified and targeted utilizing their "undecided" status; however, if a non-target student is interested in participating s/he may do so.
The CEM familiarizes students with careers that align with their interests, exposes students to career-related course offerings throughout the districts, guides career-oriented discussions, offers information about support services and the D214 internship program, and provides students with a general understanding of how to research careers.
The CEM is offered in a small group setting, typically ranging in 20-25 students. Student participants work through a series of assessments within the Career Cruising tool, which compiles data to provide a personalized job listing for each student. Students are given an overview of the Career Cruising site, so that they can continue to do career research following the completion of the session.
Students requiring or requesting additional support in career exploration services are invited to arrange a meeting with the school's Career Advisor. Information pertaining to Career Cruising is available on the subsequent Career Cruising tab.
