Career Advising Services

Internal Career Advisors, usually located in the College and Career Center at your school, help facilitate discussions about future career goals, current career pathways, and career-related courses available to students.  Students are encouraged to self-initiate meetings or simply complete a note-of-interest.  The school's Career Advisor will arrange a meeting to talk through the complicated world of career clusters and pathways.

Career advising services focus a great deal of attention on career exploration and research.  With the rising costs of college and increased competition for jobs following graduation, it can be extremely advantageous to have a good idea of what vocations one wants to pursue.  Utilizing online tools, such as Naviance and Career Cruising, the Career Advisor will work with students to identify careers that align well with the student's interests and skill set.

Career Advisors often collaborate with Student Service staff in order to offer a robust career- and life-readiness program.  Staff members work together to identify students who will benefit from additional student-specific, career-related interventions -- especially students who are undecided in terms of a career cluster.  The Career Advisor then meets for one-on-one advising sessions with these designated students.

Utilizing the D214 Career Pathways Booklet, Career Advisors help to educate students on the realistic possibility of beginning a career path while attending high school.  Career & Technical courses, clubs and activities, and various other resources are integrated throughout the career advising services to help our students navigate the rigorous programs and multitude of extracurricular activities offered within the District.  Ultimately, career advising services support a student's career development to better assist with their post-secondary goal decision making.
